Dr Koert-Jan Schonewille

General Practitioner

Dr Koert Jan Schonewille grew up in The Netherlands and has built a career that has taken him across Australia, New Zealand, and remote communities far from the beaten track.

After completing his medical degree, he worked extensively as an aeromedical retrieval doctor with the Royal Flying Doctor Service and as an emergency doctor in various interstate hospitals — developing deep confidence in managing acute and complex presentations in challenging environments.

He is currently completing his Fellowship with the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine. He works one day per week in the Emergency Department at Royal Hobart Hospital, bringing further breadth to his acute and urgent care experience.

Koert Jan is committed to caring for patients of all ages — from young families to those managing ongoing health conditions. He has a particular interest in men’s health. Koert Jan values getting to know his patients over time and believes good holistic medicine is built on trust, listening, and genuine partnership.

Outside of work, he is a long-distance runner and glider pilot who loves exploring what Tasmania has to offer. He lives locally with his wife and their two young sons, and understands the everyday joys and pressures his patients bring through the door.
